Presentation of Iyengar Yoga method
The teaching of yoga according to B.K.S. Iyengar is based on the in-depth practice of asanas, (yoga postures) and pranayama (yogic breathing), with focus on alignment and precision. The asanas develop strength and flexibility, stability and mobility of all the body parts; the body is freed from tension by stretching and moving with grace and firmness. The postures also create the conditions for great relaxation. The pranayama is the art of lengthening and controlling the breath. It increases vitality, balances the mind and improves concentration., These practices help to develop better physical and mental knowledge and balance. Teaching is progressive and adapted to the physical capacities of the students. The use of supports (belts, bricks, blankets, chairs, ropes, etc.) makes it possible for everybody to safely learn the postures.
